An event by Sonic fans, for Sonic fans.

Information

What is Sonic Supernova?

Sonic Supernova is a fan community event run by Sonic fans, for Sonic fans! We want to keep the parts about Big Bang events common in fandom that we love and have on our own spin on what we would like to see in a fandom-wide event. The fundamental formula of Sonic Supernova remains unchanged from that of a Big Bang event: teams of creators will come together to develop a collaborative fanwork over the duration of a creative period, after which their fanwork will be posted.

General Requirements

  • Anyone may sign up for Supernova!
Sonic Supernova is not a selective event; anyone who signs up will become a participant and be invited to the event server so long as they follow the event's general rules and requirements.

  • Age requirements
While Sonic Supernova is open to participants of all ages, only participants aged 18 and older can (1) create mature-rated content for the event and (2) be part of NSFW channels on the event Discord server.
Participants will be asked whether they are aged 18 and older on the event sign-up form. If it is found that a participant is found lying about their age for gaining access to adult-only spaces, they will be permanently banned from the server and from participating in the event.
Note that NSFW channels on the Supernova server are opt-in only. Even if a participant is 18 and older, it is up to them whether they wish to view NSFW channels in the server.

  • Content requirements
Content made for the event must be your own original work that you are either beginning or continuing. Works that you have already completed are not eligible to be posted as part of Supernova.
Any and all plagiarism, content theft, and generative AI content are strictly forbidden from Sonic Supernova.
Crossovers are allowed; just keep the work Sonic-centered.
For one, your fanwork needs to be related to Sonic the Hedgehog in some way! This includes original characters and alternate universes based on Sonic's world.
We also ask that the fanwork mainly be related to Sonic; if you want to do a sprawling crossover with three other franchises (or maybe you really want to explore the Mario & Sonic Olympic Games universe, who knows!), have the content mostly be about Sonic, his friends, and his world.

  • Social media requirements
All participants must be part of the Sonic Supernova Discord server to receive updates from the moderators and collaborate with other participants.
To take part in the event and be part of the Discord server, participants cannot have any of the event moderators blocked on social media, whose socials are linked on our staff list.
Participants are free and encouraged to control their own experience of the server by muting any non-mandatory channels they are not interested in seeing.

Code of Conduct

No tolerance for discrimination, hate, or bigotry
Any instance of a participant or a group engaging in discrimination, hate, bigotry, or threatening the safety of others in Sonic Supernova will be permanently banned from the event and future instances of it – no exceptions.
Ship-and-let-ship, don't-like-don't-read
Supernova welcomes creators and ships of all kinds from the Sonic fandom; we have zero tolerance for harassing, slandering, threatening, or bashing users on the basis of what they enjoy in fiction.
One of the founding principles of Sonic Supernova is to maintain a space where Sonic fans are free to celebrate the fictional content they like and create in the fandom. This means a strict no-tolerance policy against excluding or maligning users on the basis of which ships, headcanons, characterisations, or fan content they enjoy and explore.
Anyone found engaging in policing, insulting, harassing, slandering, trolling, manipulating, or bashing other fans for their tastes in fiction will be banned from the server and participating in Supernova.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will Sonic Supernova take place?

Sonic Supernova 2026 will begin March 2026 when we open up applications for participants and runs until October 2026 when we post the final projects! Please check out our schedule page (link located at the bottom of this page).

What platforms will Sonic Supernova take place on?

We aim to post public updates and fanworks on Tumblr, Bluesky, and AO3. Our social media accounts are all accessible via our homepage of our Carrd! For the creation period and communication with participants, we will use Discord.

Can I take part in Sonic Supernova?

Absolutely! Sonic Supernova is open to participants of all ages and talents. Whether you write, draw, do voiceovers, or dabble in needle felting, your art is welcome!

I missed the sign-up deadline. Can I still participate?

If you've missed out on the creator sign up period, we accept sign ups for pinch hitters and beta readers throughout the entire event (March through October).

What rules are there for fanworks being made within Sonic Supernova?

For one, the fanwork needs to be related to Sonic the Hedgehog in some way! We will also be allowing mature-rated fanworks to be produced for the event! See the question below for more information.

When you say that Supernova permits mature fanworks, what does that mean exactly?

The Sonic Supernova event allows participants to submit works of various content ratings, up to Mature (M-rated). Think of it as movie ratings: we allow works for mature audiences, as opposed to R18.To be precise, this means the fanworks can include subject matters that are sensitive or suited to adult audiences—such as sexual interactions and gore—but not in excruciating detail. Explicit depictions of sexual acts, for example, are off-limits.Please note this only applies to the fanworks produced for the event! We do not exclude participants based on what they create outside of Supernova. This question is one that our team is paying especial attention to. Any updates and important information will be reflected in this FAQ and the event's social media more generally!

Why is the event open to all ages if it also allows mature-rated works?

Rest assured, participants will be required to declare whether they are aged 18 and over during sign-ups. This will determine what they can see in the server and what kinds of teams they can form, i.e. minors won't be paired with adults who are looking to create mature-rated content for the event.Furthermore, access to mature content will be opt-in. Only adults who requested to participate or have access to the mature works and discussions will be able to see them.Above all, one of the aims of our event is to enable and protect participant autonomy. We want to create an environment where participants exercise their choice in what they wish to see and engage in for Sonic Supernova. This includes systems for how we will organise the event Discord server, how we tag and organise the fanworks being created, and how preferences for creative teams will be taken into account. Whether participants want to explore more adult or darker topics with their media, or they want to stay entirely PG, we want Sonic Supernova to be there and a fun time for them.
